VPL: VICTORIA BARTLETTMick Margo Member Since Spring 2006What was your inspiration for the Fall 2008 Collection?
Musculature// VPL Fall/Winter 2008
VPL revisits the anatomical voyage following the inspirations of Hans Bellmer and Louise Bourgeois; Both of whom have a deep and abstract fascination with the female form. Bellmer’s muscular delineation and Bourqeois’s glandular forms inspired this season’s love for body geography. I am always inspired by medical concepts: sutures and stitches, surgical colors, etc. I always pull inspiration from anatomical concepts or body geography, leading to the theme of Musculature. What was it that made you want to become a designer?
When I was young I liked art, then I fell into fine art. During school, I found a niche in textiles and textile printing when I was about 17. {Not to mention, I liked a boy in school who was interested in fashion, so my crush on that boy motivated me to take some fashion classes!}
What is the favorite piece you've ever created?
I made a vest made of used ballet slippers for our fall/winter 2006 runway show. Dance and body always inspire me, so it’s a piece that has a lot of meaning to me.
Who is your style icon?
Tilda Swinton because she is an independent and self-assured woman.
What do you like most about the city you live in?
New York is a melting pot of different cultures, it’s easy to initiate ideas, there is a whirlpool of information, and you can do what you want; There is a capacity to do so. This doesn’t come so naturally other places. There are different cultures of people and nobody is entrenched in tradition.

Voyager by Alan Parsons Project.
