What was your inspiration for the Fall 2008 Collection?

Retro Modern -The Gryson Fall 2008 collection was inspired by my love for mid-century, modernist design: shape, structure and architectural lines. I have always admired and loved the work of Frank Lloyd Wright and the way he would juxtapose stark industrial extreme lines against a natural rural environment. There is something beautiful in that contrast and that is what I was inspired by most when designing Fall '08.

What was it that made you want to become a designer?

I did not always want to be a designer - I just knew I wanted to be somehow involved in fashion. Since I was a child - I was always interested in clothing, fashion and art. As for designing accessories - I went to FIT and realized that I wanted to be in the creative part of fashion - I was taking some design / development courses - and I really excelled in them (at least according to my professors), and most importantly, I thoroughly enjoyed the creative process.

What is the favorite piece you've ever created?

The Olivia bag (which is why I named it the Olivia – named after our daughter)

Who is your style icon?

I have 2 - CoCo Chanel and Kate Moss - CoCo Chanel is just truly revolutionary yet very classic. In her time - she had a modernist philosophy, menswear inspired fashions yet still was very feminine and comfortable / wearable. She was in the pursuit of expensive simplicity, and exuded that in how she looked all of the time. She was so put together with every detail in mind - yet always looked new, fresh and interesting! Kate Moss - well, does that really need to be explained - she must be on everyone's style icon list. She just has this flair for always looking innovative, yet not forced in any way, and always comfortable with herself - any time you see her. She looks very at ease and confident, uber stylish, and just always gorgeous.

What do you like most about living in New York?

It's hard to pick out just one, but the diversity of people you see and meet in NYC every day! It's really hard to be bored in NYC—just walking from one place to another - it's quite inspiring and interesting! And let's not forget the amazing food! I love food, and the many different kinds of food available and places to eat. I am not a good cook - so I definitely need to live somewhere I can eat delicious food!

If you were stranded on a desert island, what item would you take with you?

Aside from my hubby and daughter? My iphone - if it would work there. Communication / Music / Photos—that's all I need!

What is your all time favorite song?

I can't say I have one - but one of my favorites for the past few years is "Fix You" by Coldplay....

What is your all time favorite movie?

Shawshank Redemption, I think?
